Open
A wine that is expressive and ready to drink, with aromas and flavors that are easy to perceive. Nothing is muted or closed off—it “shows well” in the glass.
Overripe
Describes fruit that was picked very late, resulting in overly jammy, cooked, or raisin-like flavors. Often associated with low acidity and a heavy, sometimes unbalanced profile.
Oxidized
A wine that has been exposed to too much oxygen, leading to dull, flat aromas and flavors. Common notes include bruised apple, nuts, or sherry-like characteristics—usually considered a fault in most wines.
Penetrating
A wine with intense, sharply defined aromas or flavors that seem to “cut through” and linger. Often used positively to describe high aromatic intensity or vivid acidity.
